The Division of Nutritional Science & Obesity Medicine is thrilled to announce that Dr. Brian N. Finck of Washington University in St. Louis has been awarded $5,831,250 by the National Institutes of Health/National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIH/NIDDK). For the next five years, the funds will support WashU’s Nutrition Obesity Research Center (NORC). This remarkable achievement allows NORC to continue advancing research related to obesity, nutrition-related diseases, major public health issues, and the economic impact these complications inflict.
Major research themes of WashU’s NORC are:
· Obesity: Pathophysiology, Complications, and Therapeutics
· Nutrient Metabolism in Health & Disease
WashU’s NORC consists of an Administrative Core, an Enrichment Program, and a Pilot and Feasibility (P&F) Program that supports junior faculty. Additionally, the NORC offers critical services through three Biomedical Research Core Laboratories:
· Clinical Science Research Core
· Animal Model Research Core
· Cellular & Molecular Biology Core
Funding for NORC began in 1999 and continues to lead and enhance the quality of life for people through progressive, cost-effective research that will lead to improved clinical therapies and effective community interventions.
