
The Division of Nutritional Science & Obesity Medicine conducts a wide array of clinical studies evaluating approaches to diet, nutrition, and disease prevention. Medical progress is dependent on this research, and we encourage anyone interested in participating to apply.
We are currently recruiting for multiple clinical trials. Details are below and those interested are encouraged to see if they pre-qualify here.
- “Looking for Overweight Participants” | WashU Medicine researchers are looking for volunteers to assess why some people develop health issues as they gain weight and others don’t.
- You May Qualify if You:
- Are 25-55 years old
- Exercise less than 2.5 hours per week
- Do not have diabetes
- Live in the Saint Louis area
- Participants Receive:
- Medical screen and body scans
- Tests to assess blood sugar control
- Some participants will receive a weight loss intervention
- Up to $2,400 is provided for time and effort
- You May Qualify if You:
- “Adult Weight Loss Study” | WashU Medicine researchers are looking for volunteers to assess how muscle and body fat changes after weight loss.
- You May Qualify if You:
- Are 50-75 years old
- Exercise less than 2.5 hours per week
- Have a BMI over 30
- Live in the Saint Louis area
- Participants Receive:
- Medical screen and body scans
- Weight loss medication
- Some participants will also receive exercise training
- Up to $3,425 is provided for time and effort
- You May Qualify if You:
- “Are you 18-40 years old and interested in a study about liver health?” | Janis Stoll, MD and Samuel Klein, MD are conducting a study to determine whether a ketone ester drink helps improve liver health.
- You May Qualify if You:
- Are 18 to 40 years old
- Have a body mass index (BMI) of 25 to 49.9
kg/m2
- Participants Receive:
- Screening visits including medical screening, blood tests, and MRI imaging
- Body composition analysis to assess total body and liver fat
- Metabolic studies to assess sugar and fat metabolism
- 2 overnight visits
- 6 week intervention period where participants will either receive the ketone
ester or placebo supplement
- The study lasts 3-4 months and up to $1000 is provided for time and effort in the study.
- You May Qualify if You:
- “Diabetes-Related Study” | Washington University seeks participants for a research study to assess the regulation of insulin levels in people with and without type 2 diabetes.
- You May Qualify if You:
- Are 18 to 65 years old
- Have good blood sugar control, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes
- The study lasts about 1 month.
- Participants Receive:
- Up to $400 provided for time and effort
- You May Qualify if You:
- “Looking for Lean and Overweight Subjects” | Washington University seeks participants for a research study to assess why some people develop health issues as they gain weight and others don’t.
- You May Qualify if You:
- Are 18 to 55 years old
- Have a BMI under 50
- Do not have diabetes
- Do not exercise more than 4 hours a week
- Participants Receive:
- A health screening
- Scans to assess body fat
- Tests to evaluate blood sugar control
- Up to $1700 is provided for time and effort.
